Last night E called to say that there was a lecture being given at the university by Noam Chomsky, and that we should go. I eagerly agreed. E and I have had a checkered past with Noam. Basically we know nothing of him, or his ideals or what he stands for. Well, we do know that he writes books that we would likely never be able to get through (please don't judge us on this little fact...we just aren't uber intelligent...not to say that non Uber intelligent people can't enjoy him...we just aren't that interested...or we are just ignorant) We are Chomsky Illiterates. But within our group of friends, there are a few Chomsky Champs, who can actually relate to you the meaning of any number of his books (Ask for a title, and I can give you none) and then go on to discuss the pertinent symbolism as it relates to modern day technology, or something equally greek to us. But we are looking at this opportunity, which has been placed in our laps, as the perfect time to acquaint ourselves with Mr. Chomsky. We are hoping that once we leave the auditorium this evening, that we will be among the Chomsky Champs, and be able to spout pieces of this man's intelligent mantra. Basically, we are hoping that it makes us look smarter, is that so bad??
