So, other than the Krazy Kleenex Klepto my news is that Sunday was the CIBC Run for the Cure in Halifax. What an amazing experience. I was totally blown away by the number of people who showed up to support this cause. When Erica and I first arrived at the field, I got the first tinglies (which is that feeling you get when you are experiencing an overload of emotion). I couldn't believe that so many people would come together in order to help find a cure for this disease, it was simply amazing. Then as we got onto the field with the other participants, it was completely overwhelming for me to see so much personal interest in this cause. The family in front of us were running for their mother and wife, who is a breast cancer survivor. A young woman to our left was running for all other woman who were diagnosed at 26 years old, just like her; her husband was running for her. At the very end of the race, we saw a young man and his two small children running for their wife and mommy, but she was no where in sight. Erica and I were both thinking the same question in our head when we saw them "Is she a survivor?". The whole experience was bittersweet, I was so proud to be a part of such a great cause, and realized that thousands of other people felt the same way as I did. But there still isn't a cure, and there are still so many people affected by this disease every day, and will continue to be affected by it until a cure is found. I think that in my case, before I participated in this event, I knew that breast cancer was a huge threat to women everywhere. But being there on that field, seeing all the people who have been affected directly, and realizing that they are real people just really made me see and feel the disease more than ever before.
Anyway, love that book list idea. Going to implement.
