People are weird. Very weird. My office is in a building where some modern language courses are held, so come September the halls are filled with the pitter patter of little feet. On the odd occasion I will have an urgent request for a stapler or a printer to get that term paper in to their professor at the last minute before the deadline. But I have to say that today the weirdest thing ever happened. The event unfolded like this: I was sitting at my computer, typing an email to my boss, when I noticed out of the corner of my eye, someone entering my office. Kinda taken aback, I turn to look at him. He didn't look at me, and it was almost as if this boy was walking into my office backwards so as to ignore my presence. Fine, I watched him as he inched toward my desk, and snatched a kleenex out of the box that I keep on my desk. Without saying a word, he just took the kleenex and left. I was so astounded that I just looked at him without being able to say anything, no words would come to mind. Now, I understand that it was just a kleenex...but to enter a stranger's office, and walk up to their desk without saying a word, not even a hello, and start stealing Kleenex?? And then walk back out again without a word?? Strange, strange, strange. But then, two minutes later he comes in again!! And takes yet another kleenex. This time Ms. Bitchy was waiting for him, and asked him if he just wanted to take the box. He can speak!! He just laughs and says no he is fine. I told him, seriously, just take the box. I felt like telling him, it isn't just for you, the trauma of having a stranger repeatedly enter my office to steal kleenex was a little unnerving. But he wouldn't take the box. I am afraid that this is the beginning of a sordid life of stealing for this young man. Sure, it might start off innocently with Kleenex, but what happens when it turns into something larger, like staplers and paper, or even paper clips. I think that some form of intervention is needed in this situation. Anyone know of any good intervention programs that might help this lad out?
