Time to cue the dreary, depressing music and decide whether or not I can logistically stay in bed all day and sleep away the day of lovers and love. Unfortunately, I did get up and decide to face the world of overly happy couples, smiling and gushing over flowers, chocolates, and declarations of undying love. And to make this Valentine's Day even more special, not only am I single, but I am also dying of the worst cramps ever. Happy Valentine's Day!! Here's hoping your uterus falls out. Even as a kid Valentine's Day was stressful. In elementary school we would spend most of the day turning lunch bags into beautiful crafty Valentine mailboxes for the front of our desks. Then we would anxiously wait to see if we would get any Valentines. Was this just an exercise to prepare us for the real world when we became adults? Sitting on a bed of nails waiting to see if someone loves us enough to give us some token to show it? Once, when I did happen to get something for Valentine's Day, I still wasn't happy. I ended up getting candy. Initally I was so happy with my gift, and felt so thought of and special. Then I remember getting home, and thinking to myself: Oh my god, he thinks that I am fat, and the only thing that I like is food, especially candy. I was 13 years old!! What was I thinking? The boy's mother probably picked it out (which in later years made me think that she looked at the chubby girl that I was and decided that this kid would much rather enjoy candy than anything else...isn't it good to see how age matures a person?). So this leads me to the decision that we should all just eliminate Valentine's Day, because it will never make us happy. No more VD!! Let the single people be tortured by all the other holidays and weddings in the rest of the year. Let all the coupled people get gifts that make them feel like crap on those holidays as well. There really isn't any need for the extra drama. Plus, it would be fun to see Hallmark have a significant drop in a quarters earnings!!
