Oh, Billy!

Guess what? There is a new man in my life, and his name is Billy. This is a man who causes me to lose my breath after only a few minutes alone with him, this is a man who makes me sweat, and makes me do things that I never thought were anatomically possible. Oh, Billy. Billy, Billy, Billy. He may not be the best dresser, as for the short time I have known him, I have only seen him in really ugly beach shorts, a tight tank top, and sneakers. But I think that he might be the man to change my life. World, meet Billy:

That's right...Billy Blanks is the new man in my life. I went and bought my first work out DVD yesterday, Tae Bo Cardio circuit 1, in an attempt to make working out at home more cost effective.
I watched it a little bit at first just to see what I was getting myself into...it actually looked like fun, and didn't seem that challenging...a few punches there, a couple of kicks there...nothing that I couldn't handle. Except that half way through the very short 36 minute DVD, I couldn't lift my legs any more to kick.
The video is broken down into different circuits: the lower body, abdominal, and upper body. Billy starts off really slow just showing you the moves, making it look so simple, and then you do two sets of 8. In the middle of the abdominal circuit, and at the end of what felt like the hundredth set of 8, I was ready to quit. But Billy has a different idea, the end of the second set of eight is actually a cue for the cardio version of that circuit, and you do two sets of 8 imitating someone on speed. I think that for everytime I would lift my leg, Billy and his harem of fit people had already done 4. It wasn't all so bad though, the one thing that I liked was that there wasn't a lot of intricate footwork and fancy arm movements.
Oh wait, what did I find to my surprise at the end of all the circuits? A fun amalgamation of ALL the moves that we had done throughout the ENTIRE video, choreographed into a fast paced death dance of cardiovascular activity. OMG! I just stood there, dumbfounded, not even sure where to begin. Arms were flying in every direction, and legs were kicking, and bending, and pivoting. I would try to do the things that they were doing on the screen, but see, since I was facing right (like Billy told me), and I wasn't allowed to have my eyes facing centre (like Billy told me), I couldn't see the fucking TV to see what I was supposed to do. Ummm.....seems to be some technical problems there Billy boy. That or there is a reason that I have never owned an exercise video or gone to an aerobics class. Thankfully the phone rang just as I was about to collaspe from exhaustion and frustration. I am sincerely hoping that as time goes by it is going to get easier, and eventually I will be on the same level as Billy's Fit Harem, who are always smiling, and happy to have another set come their way. Wish me luck!
